Discuss:
o What does the Holy Spirit empower us to do, and what should we focus on?
1. Ecclesiastes 3:1 states that there is a time and a season for everything. Why is it important to understand that there are some seasons reserved only for the Father to know?
2. How does Dr. Zadai describe disappointments in this study? How can we keep our appointments with God, according to Acts 1:7–8?
3. Why did Jesus marvel at the centurion's faith in Matthew 8:8–10? Discuss the connection between understanding authority and having faith.
4. What does it mean to trust God with all your heart and acknowledge Him in all your ways, according to Proverbs 3:5–6? What does God promise to those who do this?
5. Acts 17:24–27 talks about how God appointed us to be in our generation. Even though satan is the (little g) god of this world, how can we give God control of our lives and impact our generation?
To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under
heaven.
—Ecclesiastes 3:1
DISCUSSION:
What the Lord has put on my heart to discuss this week is that you do not have to experience disappointments. That root word for disappointment is appointment. So dis-appointment means that there is distance or a disconnect between you and your appointment. When you miss your appointment, it becomes a disappointment. The
Lord wants to help you make your appointments with Him; you don't have to have disappointments anymore. God wants us to keep our appointments in the Spirit so we can connect with Him.
RECEIVE POWER FROM HEAVEN FOR YOUR APPOINTMENTS
And He said to them, "It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority. But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."
—Acts 1:7–8
Ecclesiastes 3:1 says that everything has a season and that there is a time for every purpose under heaven, which is excellent news. We can observe that even the Lord Jesus had specific times and seasons. After His resurrection, Jesus preached for 40 days on the kingdom of God (Acts 1:1–3). He said in Acts 1:7–8 that it's not for us to know and understand all the times and seasons appointed by God because they are reserved for the Father to know; they are not for us. Here Jesus is referring to subjects concerning the end times. According to Matthew 24:36–44, we don't know when Jesus will return. Even Jesus, the Holy Spirit, and the angels do not know the day or the hour of when He is coming back; only the Father knows.
Jesus said in Acts 1:7–8 that we're not supposed to focus on the times and seasons reserved only for the Father to know. In the same breath, He declares that you shall receive power from on high when the Holy Spirit comes. So don't focus on what's supposed to happen next or try to figure out the timeline of the coming of the Lord. Let the Holy Spirit come upon you and be endowed with power; the Spirit will lead you to fulfill the appointments God has for you. We are supposed to be focusing on preaching the message of the gospel. This is the correction that came to me and the reason why Warrior Notes was formed. We are not called to get involved with every world event, but to focus on what God says.
o What does the Holy Spirit empower us to do, and what should we focus on?
JESUS FOCUSED ON HIS ASSIGNMENT
How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.
—Acts 10:38
There are all kinds of disappointments in the political realm and in attempting to navigate timelines of current events. There are wicked people who are manipulating the systems of this world, so God's will is not being done in that realm. In Jesus's day, it was not God's will for John the Baptist to be beheaded. Yet Jesus did not visit him in jail and didn't even try to get him delivered. Why? Because Jesus had one task at hand, which was to minister to the lost sheep of Israel. He continued to preach and went about healing everyone.
It appeared that Jesus ignored John the Baptist when he was in prison. John even sent somebody to ask Jesus if He was really the one or should they believe for someone else (Luke 7:19). Yet wasn't it true that when he met Jesus at the River Jordan, he baptized Him saying, "Behold the Lamb of God" (John 1:29–34)? Do you remember that? He announced that Jesus was the Messiah. John met his appointment during that time and season. Likewise, there is a purpose and a time for everything now. John started to wonder because he was incarcerated. He ended up losing his head over a dispute that had to do with terrible, vile people, and Jesus didn't stop it from happening (Matthew 14:1–12).
WE ARE APPOINTED FOR OUR GENERATION
God, who made the world and everything in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands. Nor is He worshipped with men's hands, as though He needed anything, since He gives to all life, breath, and all things. And He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their preappointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings, so that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us.
—Acts 17:24–27
In these days that we live in, there are certain things that we are not supposed to know. We are supposed to be preaching, helping people, and encouraging them in the truth. Acts 17:26 says that God knew and knows everyone who lived in each generation. He ordained people to live at certain times, places, and seasons. God has appointed each of us to be in the generation and season we are in; we are all known.
There are over 3000 Warrior Notes Fellowships worldwide who are all hearing this message. God called me to establish this ministry in a certain way. Everybody hears the same message every week. Each has the same study guide, prayer time, and discussions, so we are all on the same page. This brings unity. I was instructed to keep the messages brief, so there will be time to focus on ministering to people, prayer, and meeting needs. This is the ministry that God called me to do; I'm not called to figure out current events or the political realm. God is not in control of all that; He can govern us, as the body of Christ, if we give him the ability to do that.
We can submit to God, and He will move on our behalf (Matthew 6:33; James 4:7).
And as you go, preach, saying, "The kingdom of heaven is at hand." Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.
—Matthew 10:7–8
Jesus only did the will of the Father (John 5:19), and God moved with Him. The Father healed the sick, raised the dead, and cast out demons through Jesus's earthly life. We are called to do likewise.
GOD WILL DIRECT YOUR PATH ACCORDING TO HIS WILL
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.
—Provers 3:5–6
The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
—John 10:10
Proverbs 3:5–6 instructs us to trust in the Lord with all our heart and not to be moved by our own understanding. If we acknowledge Him in all our ways, He promises to direct our paths. It is clear that we must trust God. That means that we might not understand everything. I don't know everything that will happen because the devil's unpredictable. He is evil and will do what he wants to do in the world. Jesus said in John 10:10 that the thief comes to steal, kill and destroy. He then declared, "I come to give you life and life more abundantly." So we know what the enemy comes to do, yet we also know what God is doing—giving life.
Then Jesus answered and said to them, "Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner."
—John 5:19
In the realm of the world, wicked and evil people are not listening to God. They are not seeking Him or doing His will. They don't even believe in Him. Our focus should be like Jesus's; He just did the will of the Father. He did not do anything unless the Father told Him to do it. He only did and said what the Father did.
